Matrix Typer – Typing Game with a Mini Course

Hi everyone!

I’d like to share a small project I built with Phaser 3 and TypeScript: Matrix Typer

It’s a typing game inspired by the classic Matrix rain effect — letters fall down the screen, and you have to type them before they reach the bottom. The goal is to keep up with the pace and improve your typing skills while having fun.

I also included a mini typing course, so players can train step by step, starting from the basics and gradually increasing the challenge.

I’d love to hear your feedback, especially on the gameplay feel, difficulty balance, and overall experience. :slightly_smiling_face:

I used font-awesome-for-phaser to create icons.

Well done! It’s very fun. When you “lock on” to a word, I noticed it prints it at the top in this green, semi transparent text. It might be nice if that was easier to read and at the bottom of the screen. It’s a little hard to make out.

The pause button seems to crash the game. Like I can open the menu, but when you close it, the game freezes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I have fixed the pause menu bug with the X button it should be working fine now. And I really liked your suggestion about the lock-on text, I’ll run some tests to improve its readability. Thanks

Love your game. I started writing a typing game a couple of years ago and didnt finish it. Yours is much better than mine ever was. Not sure about the large breasted females. I wouldn’t recommend it for this reason. It will just apply to young males which isn’t perhaps the greatest example in 2025. I also know that my teenage daughter wouldn’t be impressed.
Cheers

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I really appreciate it!

When I originally made the game, I asked an AI tool to generate images of “people inside the Matrix”, and it ended up producing results like that. At the time, there wasn’t much control over the outputs, so I just went with what it gave me.

I completely understand your point though, and I agree — it’s not the best representation.
Now that AI tools are much more advanced, I’ll update the visuals with well-dressed people presenting the typing game instead.

I’ll post here once I replace the assets. Thanks again for the honest feedback and kind words about the gameplay! :folded_hands:

Thanks for your feedback. I updated the logo in website and the images in game

No worries - I work for TAFE and am considering running a Typing competition amongst the students next term. I think your typing game would be a good candidate for this? Do you think that could work?
