It’s a turn based desktop tower defense style game, still needs a bit of polish and tuning but it’s playable. Aiming for ~20 minutes for a full run, ~10 minutes for beginners (there are some tricks to learn).
Balance has been a lot harder and time consuming then I expected, but hopefully about right. Please give it a try and let me know what feels off like, difficulty spikes, hero balance, anything.
Please screenshot your game over screen and drop it here if you can!
Score + hero + turn/wave count, along with seeing the final state of towers/buttons will help me a lot.
Interesting idea, looks good, but the game is boring.
You have a castle in the middle and an archer. You can move with the archer in the map, but all enemies come to the center, so no point in moving. The first few turns you just wait for the enemies to come to you. Boring.
When enemies swarm the castle, you get dazed. So you can’t do anything. Boring.
Sometimes you want to shoot, but move by accident instead. It’s not a bug, but bad UI.
Towers are expensive as hell, so you have to wait for the half of the game to build your first tower. Boring.
I would say the game should be re-balanced a bit. I tried playing with the paladin, archer, and barbarian. The barbarian seems to do much better than the other two. He is much stronger and more mobile. I understand that the archer can attack at range, but I don’t see the point in using him over the barbarian, and the paladin seems completely useless, as he can’t move around as much as the barbarian. The paladin also seemed to be dazed every single turn.
Getting dazed should probably happen a lot less. I noticed there are enemies that can shock you from multiple squares away and give you the dazed effect. I think this is a little unfair, but it also doesn’t make sense from a gameplay perspective because it makes it almost impossible to create any strategy with the roaming character. I understand getting dazed if you stand by the keep and get swarmed, but if I’m out in the field fighting one on one, the enemies have too much of an advantage if I can get dazed almost every turn anyway. It makes the roaming characters feel like they have very little value except the barbarian who seems to get dazed half the time.
I was able to get to turn 62, wave 5 and 1088 points.
Ok, I was able to get to wave 6 and over 2000 points now. I get now that you’re supposed to move your roaming character away from enemies after attacking them. It still seems like the barbarian is far and away the best character. I disagree that the game is boring, it just maybe needs a little more explanation as I get the feeling like there are probably strategies that I am missing. I was able to build a large number of towers as well.
The feedback here is actually pretty useful. It sounds like the game has more depth than people realize at first, but some mechanics take time to figure out. I’ve seen the same thing while working on my chrono age calculator website. Sometimes users need a little guidance before things click. Congrats on the release, and it’s great to see players taking the time to share detailed feedback.
