My new game runbound.org is finally out! It is an open world 2d game with physics similar to sonic 2, and it has 12 boss fights and 6 races in the map. The map is very big with 3 different “zones”. Please check it out and give feedback about the game or any bugs. Thanks!
Uff.. the eyes
Cool concept
Even though the graphics are a bit minimum its super fun lol
Thanks! Im sorry but I actually have no idea how to fix that glitch, but if you change the size of your window it should be fixed.
I’m so glad you like the game, it would be really nice if you could tell your friends as well, thanks for playing!
(That glitch only happens on ciertain computers so sorry )
True I agree, but pulls it down a bit. For me.
all good all good
if you want some assets drawn I can assist with that
Need for UI assets ?!
Same as bread… Needed all the time
Sorry but I’m not really monetizing the game yet so I’m not looking to pay for assets. Thank you for the offer though.
you dont need to pay lol
its a free offer, I just do it for fun– might not be the best assets but it could still be pretty good
That’s really nice of you! I like the opportunity to make my game look better. Which assets would you like to change? I could send you the original assets so it would be easier for you.
I love Sonic games, and the concept of a truly open world Sonic style game is intriguing. That said, I wanted to give you some feedback, because I think the game as is has some safety concerns.
Shift Key Issue
On Windows, there is a shortcut for enabling what’s called “Sticky Keys,” which involves pressing Shift five times. I would change the fire button to something else to avoid triggering the sticky keys pop-up during gameplay.
Epilepsy Warning
I’m not epileptic, but I do have problems with specific colors and patterns of light. They make me feel very disoriented, and I noticed that the liberal use of primary red and blue, combined with fast-moving, super high-contrast graphics and spaces where you can easily “ping pong” around, makes it so I can’t look at the game for very long. I would definitely put an epilepsy warning on it if you leave it as is. In general, leave primary red and blue off a video game, except for an accent or shade here and there.
Better Colors
For game design in general, you should study how to use more pleasing color palettes. Here’s a good website for that:
Using a cohesive palette throughout can make your game look more polished and prevent some of the potential seizure-inducing flashes you currently have. It also gives it more character and feel.
Power-of-Two
Consider converting your game resolution and all background graphics to power-of-two dimensions. It makes everything look and run smoothly. For example, the starry background looks distorted on my PC because Phaser is stretching it and it’s not at a power-of-two resolution. Here’s more info:
Game Assets
I also recommend tile graphics and animations. If you’re not a designer, there are plenty of free assets on these websites:
Thanks for all these good tips! I will make sure to change the SHIFT key to Z for better gameplay on windows. I will also add an epilepsy warning on the loading screen and the press click to start screen. Unfortunately though I don’t think I will have time for assets because of school and work, sorry.
Thanks for all the nice feedback, I want to let you know that I have added and epilepsy warning before starting the game and that I have changed the attack button from SHIFT to Z.
